  Second Floor Tour

A Tour of the High Dunes House' Second Floor

The Second Floor welcomes you with a stairwell library of built-in floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. Past the bookshelves, a hallway provides entry to Bedroom #3, Bedroom #4, the Second Floor Screened Porch, and a large linen closet with laundry connections.

These accomodations are great for accommodating for guests. Or, taken as a whole, the Second Floor makes an ideal Master Suite with private porch. Before starting our B&B, our original plan was to use Bedroom #3 as our personal Master Bedroom, and to use Bedroom #4 as a private upstairs den and reading room.

The Second Floor Landing and Hall

As the stairs wind from the First Floor, the Second Floor welcomes you with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves.

Around the corner, off the hallway, double-doors open to a spacious linen closet. For those who believe that "the laundry should be where the dirty clothes are", the linen closet includes functional laundry hook-ups near Bedroom #3. With the laundry connections in mind, we had the closet's floor constructed as a large drain pan, to protect the floor below from any washing machine mishaps.

Bedroom #3

Bedroom #3 was intended as our master bedroom.

Currently furnished with a white king-size Country bed and painted a custom shade of blue, it is among the most popular rooms with B&B guests.

It features a walk-in closet, and its private bath features a large walk-in shower.

Double French doors open up the bedroom to the second-floor screened porch.

Bedroom #4

Currently furnished with a king-size oaken Victorian bed, the bedroom #4 is perfect as a cozy guest room.

It might also serve as a private den/office/reading room, just steps away from the master bedroom.

Its private bath features a conventional tub-shower.

A single French door opens directly to the second-floor screened porch.

The Second Floor Screened Porch

Both second-floor bedrooms have French doors that open directly to another large screened porch.

Nestled back under the overhang of the metal roof, it's the perfect spot for watching springtime thunderstorms while staying dry and cozy.

A raised door in the screen opens to a cat-walk which serves as a shortcut to the exterior stairs and the hot-tub deck.

With its breezy screened porch and homey bedrooms, the Second Floor serves as a wonderful quiet getaway.

The photo below is taken from the roof of the Breezeway House: notice how the Second Floor Porch peeks out from behind the exterior stairs. At first glance from the outside, you don't even know its there.

Notice too how the Second Floor (not to mention the Third Floor) is high enough to provide sea views that are well above the roof peaks of the million dollar homes that are built back behind the dunes from which the High Dunes House presides.
